September Wine Tasting, Tuesday 14 September, 7.30-9pm
Weightless: Riesling Vs Pinot Noir
In fine wine, terroir is everything. The unique combination of soil, microclimate, vines and man, that distinguishes the great growths from the everyday is fleeting, almost intangible, but also magical, defying explanation in its transformation of the mundane into the sublime.
Two grape varieties stand out as vehicles for terroir and their ability to capture a sense of where they come from more clearly and transparently than any others, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Both owe their existence to the obsessive dedication of the Cistercian monks of the middle ages who have made the vineyard names of Burgundy and the Mosel talismans for wine lovers everywhere and wherever they are grown there is a minute selection of parcels, plots and vineyards.
In this tasting, we face off three of Germany's most elegant and graceful rieslings from the sheer slate slopes of the Mosel valley against three classic French Pinot Noirs, from the granite massif centrale, Burgundy's legendary Cote d'Or and the forgotten high-country of Franche-Comté respectively to discover just how remarkably these grapes capture the essence of terroir and the pleasure of drinking a wine that tells a story. All beverages will be accompanied by small boards of cheese and charcuterie to share.
Please get in touch if you need any more information.
We can’t wait to see you on the 14 September!
