Pale Fire: Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Xinomavro
Pale and light need not mean faint or feeble and three grapes more than any others exemplify this, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo and Xinomavro. Weightless, ethereal and perfumed, all three are neverthless built around a core of thrilling acidity and, especially in the case of the latter two, tannin, bringing structure, shape and energy to the wines they produce. From sweet and caressing to heady and exotic, these are light reds that set the hearts of wine lovers racing, uniting as they do aromatic charm with crisp definition and digestibility. Tonight we try two brilliant examples of each grape taking us on a journey from Eastern France to Northern Italy and finally to the mountains of the Greek mainland in search of wine that floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee.
All wines will be accompanied by small boards of cheese and charcuterie to share.
